Holy Scripture
The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are inspired by God, without error in the original writings, fully trustworthy, and our final authority for faith and life. We teach the whole counsel of God through straightforward, contextual exposition.
The Triune God
There is one God who eternally exists in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—equal in divine nature and glory, distinct in person, and perfectly united.
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. Conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, He lived without sin, died as the substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of humanity, rose bodily, ascended to heaven, and will return personally and visibly.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit convicts the world, regenerates, sanctifies, indwells every believer, and empowers Christians for ministry. We believe the baptism with the Holy Spirit is distinct from regeneration and may occur at salvation or afterward, bringing greater power for witness. His biblical gifts continue today and must operate in love and scriptural order.
Humanity and sin
God created human beings in His image as male and female, equal in dignity and worth and distinct in complementary roles. Every person is a sinner by nature and choice and cannot be reconciled to God by personal goodness, religion, or effort.
Salvation
Salvation is God’s gift of grace, received through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Because Jesus died for the sins of the world, the invitation is open to all; everyone who comes to Him receives new life and forgiveness. Saving grace produces an increasingly obedient life.
The Church
All who are born again form one universal church under Christ, expressed through local congregations. The church worships, teaches Scripture, makes disciples, cares for people, and carries the gospel to the world.
Church leadership
Men and women share equal value before God and vital ministry in the church. We are complementarian: qualified men bear governing elder and pastoral responsibility. Hilkiah churches distribute that responsibility across a qualified fivefold leadership team rather than one senior pastor.
Ordinances
Jesus gave the church two ordinances: the full-immersion water baptism of believers and the Lord’s Supper. Neither earns salvation; both visibly declare the gospel and our life in Christ.
Things to come
Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly to establish His millennial kingdom. We believe the church will be caught up to meet the Lord before the Tribulation, followed by bodily resurrection, final judgment, eternal life with God, and endless separation from Him for those who reject Christ.
Marriage
God created humanity male and female to complement one another and established monogamous marriage between one man and one woman as the foundation of the family and a basic structure of human society.
Christian life
Believers are called to abide in Christ, walk in the Spirit, grow in holiness, love one another, pray, serve generously, and bear witness to Jesus. Doctrine is meant to form worship, character, family life, community, and mission.
